Cast Iron Toy Cannon, 22-inch, EARLY!

This toy cannon is from the early 1900s, probably around 1920 or before (or so my research shows) but I'm no cannon expert. It is marked 16FW on the wheels, and 16FA under the ammo box. It may be from the Big Bang family of cannons.

The ammo box (a counter-weight for this heavy piece) is missing the cork, and the cannon is missing the end cap and whatever else it takes to make it operational. As I said, I don't know that much about these cannons.

The barrel is a little less than 16 inches, and the entire thing is about 22 inches overall. The wheels are also cast iron, and measure almost 6.5 inches in diameter. It's also very heavy, weighs about 9 lbs. No cracks or breaks, but one small chunk out of the rear end where the end cap would attach. Don't know if this will affect operation of the cannon, or if it will prevent an end cap from sealing properly.

Even if it doesn't fire, it's an impressive piece, and really looks cool on a shelf.

Shoenhut Humpty Dumpty Circus CLOWN

Here's a Shoenhut clown looking for his circus! Bright face, but has a small piece out of his left cheek bone. Otherwise, very nice condition. Costume is a bit soiled. You can still make a part of the stamp on the bottom of his right foot that says "Humpty"

I would rate this clown a good C-6. O'Brien's says $275 in that condition, but priced much less here.

Looks great sitting on the shelf!

Arcade Greyhound Bus, c. 1938, EXCELLENT

Description:

Really nice example of the Arcarde Greyhound bus from this period. Has high quality rubber replacement Arcade tires, but otherwise all original. Play wear, yes, but most of the nicks are on the roof. Nickled front and back are excellent. Perfect casting all around, no cracks or breaks. Decals a bit faded and discolored with age, as appropriate.

Hubley Racer No. 22, Near Mint!

I've had a few of these Hubley No. 22 Racers, but this is absolutely the nicest I've seen. Supposedly from a discovery of old store stock. Has a couple of nicks to the paint, but that's about it. Marx Rocket Fighter, EXCELLENT!

This is the 1951 version of the Marx Rocket Fighter, and is in EXCELLENT condition. The earlier issue was in the 1930s and was a Flash Gordon toy...only difference is this does not have Flash Gordon printed on it. Sparkling windup mechanism, and works fine. Wind him up and he rolls across the floor, shooting sparks out the back, and making a pinging sound as if he's shooting his space gun.

The Tailfin and Sparker are Replacements. Otherwise all original and Near Mint. Some very light scratches here and there, and a small spot of corrosion on one of the front fins (very hard to see in the photos). Measures 12 inches long. This is a BEAUTIFUL TOY. I'm going to call it a C8, just because of the replaced tailfin and sparker. You won't be disappointed!

Currently seen on eBay in lesser condition for $700. Priced more reasonably here!

Hubley Golden Arrow Racer with Animated Exhaust - ORIGINAL

This is a correct and ORIGINAL Hubley Golden Arrow Racer....NOT one of the reproductions you often see on eBay. I know, because I have the reproduction, too, and there is no comparison in quality! The casting on the real thing is much smoother, the details are cleaner and more exact. Also, the reproduction is about one-fourth inch shorter than the original (cast iron shrinks when it cools, so the re-cast repros are just a bit shorter). This car measures 10.375" from the tip of the tail fin to the tip of pull-string eyelet in front. I don't include the tires in my measurements, because they can vary.

Has the original wheels and rubber tires (which are quite hard, and with a few nicks). The wheels are also loose from play, but the left front wheel still grabs the axle that turns to make the animated exhaust flames go up and down. Correct split face driver, too. Car is dated 1938, stamped underneath (could be 1936). NO CRACKS, BREAKS OR CASTING FLAWS.

This car was originally orange, but had a repaint many years ago. Very well done (probably by the kid's dad). You can see spots of orange peeking through the red, and evidence of paint wear to the original orange finish, which is probably why it was painted. Or maybe the kid didn't like orange! After painting it was still heavily played with, evidence by the wear on the two "arms" underneath that make the flames go up and down.

Wonderful toy, and has been in my collection for years....but time to find it a new home. Haven't You Been Good This Year??

1969 Tonka Garbage Truck w/Box, NEAR MINT!

This is a substantial toy, and in NEAR MINT CONDITION for a toy almost 50 years old.
NO RUST, Almost Perfect Windshield, Tires and Wheels, Logos, etc. Yes, you can see some minor scratches if you look real hard, But they are few and far between. A few nicks on the top of the box and some rub scratches where the body meets the frame are the most significant.

Box is okay, not great. All the flaps are there. Some crayon markings and a big stain you can see in the pictures. I'm not into the boxes that much, but you can add about $100 to the value of this toy with the box.

The Tonka Sanitary Service is 15.5" long, 5.75" wide, and 7.5" tall. Weighs in at a hefty 4 lbs 15 oz.

It's not as rare as the square Tonka garbage truck that preceded this model (and sells for about $500) but the condition of this one is NEAR MINT, C9 . This would look great in an office setting, or on an executive's desk. GREAT GIFT IDEA, Too!

Doepke Barber Greene Mobile Bucket Loader, 1953

NEAR MINT!! This Doepke Barber-Greene bucker loader is in unbelievable condition! Still has the "Inspected By..." sticker underneath, so I think it was only played with a few times. Also has some remnants of dirt on the digging blades, perhaps from the only time the toy was put in the dirt. Buckets are clean, rubber belt is ORIGINAL (and could use some reconditioning), decals are very good with only some minor scratches and imperfections.

A true marvel of toy engineering! Very Heavy, too, weighs in at over 9 lbs.

These aren't particularly rare, but hard to find in this condition. Another example with a box recently sold for $500, and the condition of this toy is BETTER. Let's say the box is worth $100, so this is a fairly priced at...

Sparky Robot, Yoshiya (Japan) Wind-Up

Really neat little robot from 1954. Sparky walks very well when wound, but sparkling effect in eyes no longer works. He's also missing a spring-like attachment that should be on his antenna. It doesn't appear to have any function, as far as I can tell....and it should be replaceable.

Otherwise this guy is in real good shape. Has some play wear and scratches, as expected. Good condition overall. I'll call it C6, but only because it's missing that little spring attachment and doesn't spark.

Marx Siren Fire Chief Windup Car

1930s "1st Batt Fire Dept." car by Marx. Pressed Steel windup, with siren and electric lights. The windup works, but it's kind of weak and I didn't want to wind it too tightly. When it runs slowly, the siren sounds more like an engine growl, but it does work. I'm not sure about the electric lights, since I did not have the proper bulbs to test them, but the battery compartment is clean so I'm guessing they could be made to work. If I buy the new bulbs (available online for about 12 bucks each), I will add that to the cost of the car. But for now, being offered without bulbs and no guarantee that they'll light up.

This is a solid old pressed steel car with plenty of play wear, paint loss on fenders and roof, and some surface corrosion on the passenger side running board. It's not perfect, but I've seen a lot worse. Looks great on the shelf!!

Nickel Plated Passenger Train, Kenton, 1920s NICE!

You don't see these NICKEL PLATED cast iron trains very often, and this one is STUNNING! Locomotive, tender, and 3 coaches. Erie Railroad / Poncelot. Stretches for 33 inches and weighs about 6 lbs. No rust, but some aging in spots, and underneath. Only real issue are the missing pieces that connect the locomotive's big wheels together so they turn in unison. (I know these parts have a proper name, but I'm not a train person) Because of these missing pieces I'm calling it a C7 and not a C8.

In my Kenton catalog reprint, this should be Kenton train No. 733 1/2, when means it should have the loco, tender, 2 coaches and an observation car. This one has 3 coaches but not an observation car. I'm not sure what that means. In any event, I think it's beautiful and would look great on any mantel.

No mounting holes for any implements in the body, where they would be. It does have a hitch on the back. No driver (did it come with one?) Paint has some chips and considerable wear on the top, but no rust, good litho, and overall in pretty good shape. Big, too. Measures 10" long, almost 8" wide.
